College Entrance Preparation

 

GOAL:

The purpose of this FREE workshop is to offer its participants information pertaining to the college process. This information will include standardized tests, financial aid, choosing a college, an overview of what engineering is, and a panel to answer any questions remaining.

 

WORKSHOPS:

PSAT/SAT/ACT Practice Test

This session, held by Kaplan, will inform the students about the changes made to the SAT’s, and give an abbreviated PSAT/SAT/ACT practice exam and post review session.

 

Financial Aid Workshop

This session will discuss the FAFSA process, loans, grants, and scholarships. (good places to find aid)

 

Preparing for College

This session will include information on what an individual should do to prepare themselves for the college application process and becoming a stronger candidate. This session will cover the tests needed to be taken (SAT, ACT, and/or SAT II’s), SAT/college application fees/waivers, selecting a college, types of colleges that exist, whether or not an interview is required, and what admissions offices look for in applicants.

 

STEM Career Exploration Overview

This session is aim at making students more aware and excited about the broad spectrum of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics careers as viable and attainable career options. The goal is to increase the percent of students who participate in STEM academies and who continue their education at institutions of higher education in STEM areas.
