Mission To develop and place ethnically diverse and under-represented populations into a college entrance exam workshop series at an affordable rate that will create a more open and caring community. Background For decades, urban school districts have been plagued with persisting challenges such as academic underachievement and low test scores. In Metro Atlanta, the average college admissions test scores are well below where they need to be if students are to qualify for admission to college and/or financial aid to pay tuition. One of the primary reasons that students do poorly on the exams is that they are not proficient in many of the core academic areas that the exams cover. Also, students often lack the confidence that practice and learned test taking strategies can engender. Though there were several community programs that offered tutoring services, none were available for high school age youth that comprehensively addressed core academic subject areas and test preparation. History In 2004, Mariama Covington Boone realized that there are many students in the Metro Atlanta area that wanted to go to college but didn’t have a structured, low cost program to help prepare them to get there. Far too often, their parents were not completely informed or involved enough to effectively help them. Moreover, their school counselors and teachers didn’t have the resources or time to give them much personalized attention. Mariama founded Ripple Institute Inc. as a community driven effort to help address these important concerns. Objective The objective of C.E.E.P. is focus on demystifying the SAT and breaking it down to exactly what you need to know to test confidently and score higher. Students at all score-levels will benefit from the targeted, personalized approach at the Ripple, such as concrete ways to achieve their dreams and bringing joy and meaning to their chosen careers while maintaining high standards of excellence. Goals · Achieve a high school graduation rate of 100% for C.E.E.P students. · Prepare students for college by providing experience in computers, business, liberal arts, math, science, and SAT/ACT prep. · Achieve a college entry rate of 80% for RIPPLE students. · Have students successfully complete the courses designated as college preparatory by their state, district, and school. · Inspire students to take full advantage of their talents and to grow intellectually, morally, physically, culturally, and socially. |

Mission The mission of the SEED career fair is to provide Metropolitan Atlanta elementary, middle and high school students with an introduction to career exploration and education in scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical (STEM ) workforce. Background Young people who need the greatest encouragement are often the most difficult to reach. The SEED career fair will provided students with the answers to questions such as: "What type of education would I need?" and "How much can I make in this position?" The potential income is a serious consideration for a number of students so understanding the personal, emotional and educational commitment that it takes to achieve a livable wages job in the future is a lesson that our youth need to learn today. History In 2004, Mariama Covington Boone realized that some of their most important lessons are learned outside the classroom in career-related learning programs such as the SEED career fair. One of the best ways to help students find a satisfying career is for them to interact with business leaders and other professionals who already have overcome barriers to succeed in their chosen fields. SEED will help youth by introducing them to role models, helping them build self- esteem, and involving them in programs that provide direction. Mariama founded Ripple Institute Inc. as a community driven effort to help address these important concerns. Objective Students are encouraged to investigate career pathways unknown to them and expand their horizons so they may plan their future school schedules in an educated manner. SEED career fair will bring students and volunteers from local business and industry together for a day of learning and sharing. Local businesses and agencies are sought to represent their occupations at the fair as well as support the event with their sponsorship or booth fees. The SEED career fair showcases the partnership our business community has with the youth of the area. Goals To have students from schools all over the Metro Atlanta area and business partners those that acknowledge the importance of giving their time to inspiring youth for a day. Students that attend and participate take home documentation of the experience to put in their files Þ Create positive role models and living examples of career success Þ Enhance the image of STEM careers and their impact in our society Þ Introduce youth to practical applications of Math and Science within that workforce. MISSION: Our mission is aimed at bridging the growing gap between the skills of a demographically diverse labor force and those needed in a digital economy, focusing on inspiring young people to pursue careers in science, technological, engineering and mathematical fields of study. BACKGROUND: Human knowledge and innovation capacities are at the core of the digital age. The key source of competitive advantage is embedded in the people of a given country, region or industry. Understanding our own human capital potential is the key skill need to ensure occupational wage differentials. Human capital can be viewed in general terms, such as the ability to read and write, or in specific terms, as the acquisition of a particular skill with a limited industrial application. The expenditure on training and education is costly, requires dedication and committed yet should be considered an investment since it is undertaken with a view and goal of increasing one’s personal income potential. PROGRAM FOCUS: These workshops are designed to introduce concepts beyond getting good grades and landing a high-paying job, we are focused on helping our students achieve their dreams and understand that there are achievable. Exposing youth and young adults to the concepts and skills needed to achieve true success in school, in college, in your career, and in your life. This entails a livable wage job that brings you real joy, meaning, and satisfaction to fulfill your dreams. Specific topics include the educational and human capital characteristics of successful economies; whether these successes can be replicated; the skills of the existing work force and the skills needed in a digital economy; the relative importance of human capital as compared to other forms of capital; and the impact of regulation on the U.S. labor force. PROCESS: We identify the training needs of both youth and younger workers that are necessary to bridge this mismatch; the role that immigration plays in affecting human capital and job creation; the educational and human-capital characteristics of successful economies; the impact of regulation on the labor force; and identifying economic and quality-of-life attributes that attract young knowledge workers to today’s high-skilled, high-paying technology industries. |
